An Interview With Dr. Angela L. Phipps, DO , A Qualified Hair Restoration Surgeon For Moms In Charlotte

1. If a client has already had a transplant with another doctor and is disappointed with the results, can it be redone?

Yes, another procedure can be done. I can transplant around the existing grafts to help camoflauge any gaps or unnnatural looking grafts; however, the one thing I cannot change about the prior procedure is the angle of the hair exiting the scalp. But adding more grafts at the appropriate angles in front of and around those existing grafts will help to camoflauge any disappointing results.

2. Is there a minimum age for hair loss surgery?

18 years old would generally be the youngest age I would consider transplanting unless there is a special circumstance like scarring on the scalp from a burn or from a surgical procedure.

3. Won' t bare scalp be showing in the back of my head once the donor hair is taken?

No. Once the donor scalp tissue has been exicised the skin edges are brought back together with the upper and lower hair bearing edges meeting together perfectly. And the hair above the incision will cover the stitches.

4. Do you provide free consultation?

Yes, all consultations are free of charge.

5. What type of information should be brought to the consultation?

You should be evaluated by either your family doctor or dermatologist for the hair loss to see if there are any medical reasons that could be causing the loss. Blood work to check for thyroid problems and iron deficiency anemia should be done to rule out those possible medical causes of hair loss.

6. Are lab tests required prior to surgery?

No blood tests are required for hair transplant surgery.
