An Interview With Dr. Lucy J. Barr , A Qualified Plastic Surgeon For Moms In Salt Lake City

1. When will the newly transplanted hair start to grow?

Hair starts to grow in approximately 4 months after the procedure.

2. Can I wear my hair short?

You can wear your hair short, but leaving it a bit longer (2cm) will help to mask the graft sites.

3. Do the clients need to use a bandage after the surgery? If yes for how long?

I will typically have patients wear a head band for 2 nights to protect the incision site. No other bandages are necessary.

4. When can the clients wash the hair?

The day after surgery they may lather some shampoo in a cup of luke warm water and pour it on their scalp. At one week they may gently massage shampoo into their scalp and gently rinse with a cup of water. At 2 weeks they may use direct shower pressure.

5. When can clients resume physical training?

I ask patients to avoid strenuous activity for 2 weeks as it increases heart rate and blood pressure which can cause bleeding. Bleeding can cause scabbing and potentially dislodging of grafts.

6. When can clients go in the sun?

There are no restrictions on sun exposure.
